Overview:
This is not a standard ‘team development’ programme, but is specifically aimed at leadership teams. It helps leaders understand the specific capabilities they need to develop to enable teams they work within to focus on leadership issues, and to maximise the contributions of all team members. It pays special attention to the ways in which people with different characters can enhance or detract from organisational effectiveness.
 
The key aim of this programme is:
  • To enable delegates to take on the challenges of being leaders in teams
This workshop is part of the LCS suite of Leadership Development programmes. Leadership, unlike management, cannot be taught. The role of the trainer throughout the workshop is to facilitate learning.
 
Management is an institution; the exercise of authority of one person over another; a set of organising processes that ensure stability, control and continuity. It is embedded within the concept of organisation. Leadership is a relationship; the way one individual influences another; a preparedness by one person to follow and rely upon the guidance of the person who leads.
 
The capacity for leadership grows out of an individual’s character, and leadership development is about helping individuals discover and explore what leadership means for them. It follows that anyone taking on a role in leadership development needs to be skilled in helping senior people to go through their own learning.
 
This workshop will only be effective if you engage the delegates in that learning. Delegates who bring with them a “teach me” attitude and fail to engage will learn little. Before you start the sessions, please ensure you are prepared to deal with the challenges of engaging senior people in their own learning.
